OCR Entry Level Certificate in ICT Skills for Life

Training is being offered on basic Information and Communications Technology (ICT) skills for Adult learners who are new to using ICT and wish to develop their confidence and skills in using ICT in practical situations.

How long to complete the course

The course is programmed to be completed within 15 hours for Entry Level 1; 40 hours for Entry Levels 1 & 2 and 60 hours for Entry Level 1, 2, & 3; over four weekends for a period of between 2 to 6 months, or can be completed earlier.

What you will study

The training is aimed: (i) to develop candidates practical skills in using common software applications for a purpose; (ii) to develop candidates ability to operate ICT equipment correctly and safely; (iii) to develop candidates confidence in the use of ICT; and (iv) to encourage progression by assisting in the development of the skills and knowledge that learners will need in order to undertake further study.

Candidates entered for this qualification will be following a course based on the national standards for ICT Skills for Life at Entry Level.

  • At Entry Level 1 candidates will be able to recognise and use ICT in familiar contexts to obtain and enter information, selecting from limited range of options to achieve a purpose.
  • At Entry Level 2 candidates will be able to use ICT in familiar contexts, following short sequences of steps, to find, produce and communicate information to achieve a purpose.
  • At Entry Level 3 candidates will be able to apply ICT skills to meet needs and communicate information, in familiar contexts. They will select and bring together relevant information from different sources to achieve a purpose.

Qualification

This qualification has been designed to be accessible to learners who are entirely new to using ICT and therefore no prior experience or knowledge of ICT is required.

In order to achieve this qualification, candidates must be able to meet all of the assessment requirements after their chosen level. No barriers to access are introduced through minimum entry requirements.

This qualification is very flexible in its structure enabling the organisation and individual to choose the optional units which best suit their work situation and job role.

The OCR Entry Level Certificate in ICT Skills for Life qualification is available at Entry Level 1, Entry Level 2 and Entry Level 3. Candidates can enter at the level appropriate to their needs and skills.
